Several key convenience stores in the portfolio of struggling UK supermarket group Sainsbury’s were left without fresh food last week due to problems with the company’s stock forecasting software.

About seven of the company’s Local convenience stores in London suffered shortages of fresh fruit and vegetables and other fresh foods when they reopened on Tuesday after the New Year holiday, reported The Times.

“There is an isolated problem in some of our Central London stores that closed over the Christmas period and most of these stores will be fully recovered before the weekend,” a company spokeswoman was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Although the problem was not likely to cause a financial problem for Sainsbury’s, analysts said the glitch was indicative of broader supply chain problems at the supermarket chain.
