UK retail giant Tesco has appointed ex-Unilever chief executive Patrick Cescau as a non-executive director to its board.
Group chief executive of Unilever since 2005, Cescau retired from the company at the beginning of January and will take up his new post from 1 February.
Prior to this he was chairman of Unilever and vice chairman of Unilever NV, and has held the positions of group finance director and foods director.
Cescau will be a member of the Tesco audit and remuneration committees.
Tesco chairman David Reid said: “I am delighted that Patrick is joining the Tesco board. He is highly esteemed in the business world and brings with him many years’ experience of both developed and emerging markets. His international perspective and knowledge of consumer goods will be very valuable to our board.”
