David Potts, the CEO of Tesco’s operations in Asia, will leave the UK retailer next year.

Potts is expected to depart Tesco at the end of June to “fulfil long-held personal ambitions”, the retailer said today (6 December).

However, he will leave his role as Tesco’s chief in Asia immediately and work on “one or two projects” for CEO Philip Clarke.

Trevor Masters, who currently leads the company’s business in Europe, will take Potts’ role in Asia. Gordon Fryett will replace Masters as CEO of Tesco’s European operations alongside his role in the retailer’s property division.

Potts, who has spent 39 years at Tesco, became the first CEO of Tesco’s operations in Asia when he replaced Clarke, who had been in charge of the retailer’s businesses in Asia and Europe, earlier this year.
