A second strike has been called in the dispute between UK supermarket giant Tesco and workers at the retailer’s Scottish distribution depot in Livingstone.

The Transport and General Workers union told just-food today (31 May) that a 24-hour strike will be staged next week.

The union said drivers had been angered by a letter Tesco sent telling them not to come to work for seven days as a “cooling off period”.

“The workers at the Livingstone depot are resisting Tesco’s attempt to arbitrarily change contracts. The inflammatory letter and ‘cooling off period’ are little more than a slap in the face,” a union representative said.

A national campaign meeting will be held this Saturday, the T&G said. The meeting will include an update on progress towards a national strike ballot.
