Tesco has launches its own meal deal in the UK with a move that follows a similar promotion from Marks and Spencer.
The company yesterday (5 February) unveiled the “credit-crunch busting” initiative that it claimed offered “restaurant-quality food and wine” to consumers eating in.
The promotion has been launch behind Finest, one of Tesco’s own-label brand, and includes a meal, side dish, dessert and a bottle of wine for GBP9 (US$13.26).
Tesco commercial director Richard Brasher said the retailer’s initiative was “better than the similar M&S offer because it provides the quality they want but at a cheaper price and is more convenient for them to buy”.
Tesco claimed a trial of the promotion before Christmas boosted sales of convenience meals by 20%.
