UK supermarket giant Tesco is planning to open a further 40 stores in central Europe, according to the Financial Times Newspaper.


The company has about 194 stores in Poland, the Czech republic, Slovakia and Hungary, the paper said, and it intends to increase that number to at least 234.


“With a  29.5% share of the UK grocery market Tesco has to look beyond the UK to drive growth,” the paper said. “The European expansion is only part of Tesco’s international ambitions.
