UK firm The Fabulous Bakin’ Boys is launching a snack range that it claims is the first-ever baked snack to contain one portion of fruit.
Individually wrapped as a 40g portion, Fruit ‘n Oat slices will be available in Strawberry ‘n Oat, Blackcurrant ‘n Oat and Apple ‘n Oat.
The product itself is made up of two layers, with a fruit base of sultanas, apples and apricots, topped with oats and sprinkled with strawberry, blackberry or apple pieces.
Gary Frank, founder of The Fabulous Bakin’ Boys, said: “We are really excited to be launching Fruit N’ Oat slices.
“We wanted to develop a healthy product that mums would seek out for the family’s lunchboxes, and that children would enjoy eating. It is also an ideal impulse snack for busy people on-the-go, and we will be launching an impulse purchase version of the strawberry and apple to foodservice and retail from January 2011.”
Fruit n’ Oat slices will be available in Asda from 28 December, Sainsbury’s from 18 January and Tesco from 16 February, with more listings to follow.
The company said that it is supporting the launch with in-store product sampling in conjunction with regional newspapers across England and Wales.
The RRP is GBP1.49 (US$2.30) for a pack of five slices.
