Express Dairies, Britain’s largest supplier of liquid milk, unveiled the prototype for a new milk float yesterday. The lean, mean milk float machine was billed as “a new generation of electrically powered vehicle,” and Express Dairies listed among its sophisticated features its ability to operate at over double the range and speed of its conventional counterpart.

This milk cart will even collect the dry cleaning.

Speaking as the company unveiled an increase in full year pre-tax profits by nearly 120%, from £7.1m (US$9.8m) to £15.6m, chairman Christopher Haskins commented: “We believe that home delivery offers significant scope for profitable development.”

Express is currently conducting trials with Parcelforce Worldwide delivery service, and hopes to extend the programme, with the aim of handling around 10,000 parcels a day in September.

Ernie would be impressed.
