Thorntons has said that Hannah Legg, the head of the UK chocolate maker’s online arm, has replaced Peter Wright as the company’s marketing director.

Legg had been responsible for the firm’s Thorntons Direct division but she succeeds Wright, who left the company last week after a strategy review by chief executive Jonathan Hart.

The review led to a split of Wright’s marketing and retail functions and created three new roles in a senior executive team.

Legg will take charge of brands and customer marketing in a bid to “revitalise” the Thorntons brand.

Geoff Kershaw will head retail trading and will be responsible for the “profitable delivery of the own-store transformation”, Thorntons said. Hart’s review will see Thorntons close up to 180 of the stores that it owns and revamp the outlets remaining. The Thorntons chief will keep “overall responsibility” for the company’s own stores.

David Proctor will be responsible for business development. His tasks will include “investigating strategic opportunities in the international arena”.
