UK meat processor Tulip is to cut up to 150 jobs across three manufacturing sites after failing to win a contract.

Tulip, the UK arm of Danish Crown, said it has entered into consultation with staff across three sites: Bodmin in Cornwall; Boston in Lincolnshire; and King’s Lynn in Norfolk. The company said it is hoping to redeploy as many employees as possible to alternative roles within the business.

“We are currently operating in an extremely challenging economic environment which has led to the need to announce proposed changes at three of our sites as a result of a failing to secure a tender,” Tulip HR director Kirsty Wilkins said.

“We have therefore entered into consultation with colleagues whose roles are potentially at risk of redundancy and are working closely with them to, wherever possible, lessen the impact of this announcement.”

A spokesperson for the company did not disclose which tender it failed to secure.

Tulip supplies bacon, pork, sausage and cooked meats to the retail and foodservice sectors from its 17 UK manufacturing sites.
