Italian snack maker Unichips plans to close its Highlander Snacks crisp factory in Scotland.

The imminent closure will result in the loss of 28 jobs, a source close to the situation told just-food. The plant in Bathgate, West Lothian, will be shuttered at the end of the month.

It is understood production is being moved to Italy. According to the source, Unichips has indicated the closure was the result of declining demand for the Highlander brand.

Unichips was unavailable for comment at time of press.
