Union officials wants more talks with UK sausage firm Freshlink Foods in a bid to stop the closure of a site in Scotland.
The Usdaw union told just-food it held talks Freshlink yesterday (5 July) over the frozen sausage factory in Glasgow’s east end but wants more discussions over the future of the plant.
Freshlink is the largest private-label frozen sausage supplier in the UK, employing 144 staff.
A spokesperson for Usdaw told just-food: “I had a meeting yesterday with the head of the HR department, that was a very first meeting with them. She discussed the reasons for closure.”
The spokesperson said the union is calling for a meeting with Freshlink’s directors in order to discuss the future for the employees.
He said Freshlink had cited financial reasons for the closure, adding that the company said the facility need an upgrade in order to comply with imminent EU legislation on cold storage gas facilities.

The company has other sites that aren’t running at full capacity, so they are also looking at moving production to other sites. Other than that, there isn’t much more to say at the moment.”
