Burton’s Foods workers, represented by the Unite union, will stage a march tomorrow (16 January) to protest the planned closure of Burton’s biscuit factory in Moreton.

The Jammie Dodgers maker plans to shut the Moreton factory with the loss of 342 jobs.

However, according to Unite, the move would be in breach of a commitment made by Burtons to safeguard employment at the site until 2012.

Responding to the protest, Burton’s insisted that the closure was necessary. The company said that it is investing GBP7m (US$11.2m) in consolidating production at its Edinburgh and Llantarnam facilities.
