UK snacks manufacturer United Biscuits will launch a series of new lines, change product recipes and update packaging on more brands in 2011.

The company announced today (6 December) that it will reduce the saturated fat in its McCoy’s crisps range by 30%, as well as creating a “more contemporary packaging and a stronger logo” for the line from February. United Biscuits said the move will “increase on shelf stand out and raise awareness for health-conscious consumers”.

“The 30% saturated fat reduction across the McCoy’s range also demonstrates UB’s sustained commitment to producing snacks that meet continuing consumer demand for healthier snacks,” said United Biscuits UK marketing director George Johnson.

United Biscuits will also launch a Chargrilled Chicken variant for its McCoy’s portfolio, as well as a new Spicy 6 Multi-pack. The multi-pack will include two Thai Sweet Chicken, two Mexican Chilli and two Sizzling King Prawn packs and available at an MRRP of GBP1.99.

The private-equity-owned firm is also refreshing its Meaty 6 Pack Multi-pack to include the new Chargrilled Chicken variant, also available for an MRRP of GBP1.99.

United Biscuits, meanwhile, is also redesigning the packaging on its Phileas Fogg range as well as launching more products. It said the redesigned packaging will “communicate the strength of the range” and its use of quality ingredients by featuring images of the product and ingredients on the pack.

It also announced plans to launch 140g Spicy Beef & Mexican Tortillas as well as Tandoori Chicken with Indian Spices Crisps, each available with an MRRP of GBP1.98.

“By refreshing the packaging across both the Phileas Fogg and McCoy’s ranges, as well as adding new variants, the ranges will have greater stand out on shelf and encourage impulse purchases. The new variants from Phileas Fogg will also allow retailers to capitalise on consumer desire for sharing packs, which are now worth GBP603m and growing by 13%,” said Johnson.

United Biscuits will also be launching Jumbo Flavoured Cashew Nuts, in Sweet Chilli and Honey Roast varieties, with an MRRP of GBP2.09. The range will be available from January.
