Talks aimed at preventing UK milk processor United Milk from going out of business have been extended by two weeks, according to a consortium of farmer-owned cooperatives that are trying to buy the business.
A spokesman for the consortium, which includes Dairy Farmers of Britain, First Milk and Milk Link, said the extra time had been granted by the receiver, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, in order for a deal to be reached.
“We continue to make good progress in our negotiations, although there are many more complex issues to overcome,” the spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying.
The consortium put forward an offer last month after United Milk called in the receivers.
United Milk, which has a processing capacity of 2.4 million litres per day, employs 125 people and has an annual turnover of £100m (US$158.7m).
