The Wensleydale Creamery has signed a GBP1m (US$1.6m) export deal with Anco Fine Cheese.
US specialist cheese seller Anco will become the sole distributor for Real Yorkshire Wensleydale, the cheese-maker said earlier this week (19 May).
As part of the deal, The Wensleydale Creamery is also launching products at The International Dairy Deli Bakery Association trade fair being held in Atlanta, Georgia, from 7-9 June.
Janette Scarth, export manager at The Wensleydale Creamery, said: “For a company of Anco’s stature to approach The Wensleydale Creamery directly about becoming a supplier is testament to our culture.
“This deal … further broadens our business horizons and is good news for our 198 employees and the network of more than 40 local family farms, which supply The Wensleydale Creamery with milk.”
The Real Yorkshire range includes Wensleydale with Ocean Spray Cranberries, Wensleydale with Apricots and Shires of England – a layered cheese, made up of Real Yorkshire Wensleydale, White & Coloured Cheddar, Double Gloucester and Red Leicester.
Bespoke branded labelling has been developed for the cheese range, which highlights the creamery branding.
Emmanuelle Hofer Louis, Anco Fine Cheese director of marketing, said: “Key factors in our selection of The Wensleydale Creamery as a supplier were its expertise, the provenance and quality of its cheeses as well as the strength of its brand in the USA.”
