Kraft declined to comment on the “speculation”, while UK food manufacturers Associated British Foods and Premier Foods would not be drawn on whether they were interested in purchasing the brands, reported The Financial Times.

Kraft is currently undergoing a restructuring that involves cutting jobs and closing factories. It is also selling off several of its non-core brands in order to streamline its portfolio.

Bird’s Custard, which Kraft claims is Britain’s favourite custard, was developed by scientist Alfred Bird in 1837 so that his wife, who was allergic to eggs, could enjoy egg-free custard.
