UK supermarket operator J Sainsbury has said that its US subsidiary, Shaw’s Supermarkets, has agreed to buy five stores from Vermont-based GU Markets.
The company said the five stores, located in New Hampshire and Vermont, are to be acquired in phases and converted to the Shaw’s format, reported Dow Jones International News.
“The purchase of these stores offers an exciting chance to enter new markets. They are a good fit with Shaw’s existing network of stores in New Hampshire and Vermont,” said Shaw’s chief executive officer, Paul Gannon.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
