Waitrose has revealed plans to remove free carrier bags from one of its stores in a two-week trial to encourage greener shopping practices.

Customers at Waitrose’s store in Saffron Walden, Essex, will instead be asked to use reusable bags.

Meanwhile, Waitrose will also introduce a plastic bag-free ‘green till’ at 183 other outlets during the fortnight.

The move follows in the footsteps of other UK retailers, including Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco, who have trialled methods of reducing plastic bag usage.
