UK snack maker Walkers, part of US giant PepsiCo, is to launch a beef jerky product under its Nobby’s brand that aims to compete with Unilever’s Peperami meat snack.

According to Marketing Week, the new range will include three varieties and is expected to be introduced early next year, firstly in pubs and then in convenience stores. Promotion for the brand is expected to emphasise the pure beef content of the snack.

The Nobby’s brand was launched at the start of 2005 and so far includes crisps and nuts.

Unilever revamped its Peperami brand last year with the launch of five new varieties backed by an advertising campaign.
