Confectionary company AO Odessa has given a traditional Ukrainian snack a new, rather sickly, twist. Salo, or salted pork fat, has been consumed in the Ukraine with vodka and pickles for generations, but now it has been covered in chocolate.
The product, delightfully labelled “Fat in Chocolate,” is not intended to be eaten, explained an official from the company, but instead to be seen as a light-hearted poke at the Ukrainian pork dish. Nevertheless, it proved extremely popular when it was launched in capital city Kiev during the holiday period.
