Nestle has confirmed plans to invest UAH36m (US$4.4m) in a confectionery facility in Ukraine.

A spokesperson for the group told just-food today (26 July) the investment will be made in developing and modernising its Svitoch factory in Lviv, in western Ukraine, this year.

“This includes new production lines, asset modernisation, and environmental projects, such as a sewage water reduction project, the installation of LED lamps instead of mercury vapor lamps, and energy saving programmes using thermal energy from the production process. These steps will help to reduce atmospheric and carbon dioxide emissions,” the spokesperson said.

The Svitoch confectionery factory employs around 800 workers and produces confectionery, including Lion chocolate bars mainly for the Ukrainian market.
