The Ukrainian parliament has been asked to consider a bill that would allow the country’s government to cut import duties on a variety of food products.

The bill proposes to reduce average import duties on meat products from 21.5% to 12.3%, dairy products from 24.9% to 10.01%, flour and cereals from 23.4% to 10.3%, finished food made from meat, fish and shellfish from 17.3% to 8.9%.
The government said these import duty rates are in keeping with the level outlined by its tariff commitments for 2008, which is an inseparable part of the protocol on the country’s entry of the World Trade Organization.
If approved the bill will come into effect when the Ukraine joins the WTO.
