Burton’s Biscuit Co., the UK firm behind brands including Maryland Cookies and Jammie Dodgers, has acquired Scotland-based shortbread and chutney maker Paterson Arran for an undisclosed sum.
It is Burton’s second acquisition this year after it snapped up fellow UK biscuit maker Thomas Fudge’s in February.

Burton’s, based in St Albans, north of London, said the deal announced today (2 September) is “strengthening its capability and broadening its product portfolio”.
The acquisition brings the Paterson’s shortbread brand into the Burton’s portfolio, along with biscuit and chutney brands, Brontë, Café Brontë and Arran Fine Foods.
Paterson Arran also manufactures oatcakes. mustards and preserves.

Paterson Arran employs around 200 people and runs two production facilities in Scotland: the Royal Burgh Bakery in Livingston, West Lothian, which produces shortbread, oatcakes, biscuits and cookies and the Old Mill, Lamlash, Isle of Arran, which primarily produces chutneys, mustards and preserves.
Burton’s Biscuit Co. is owned by Canadian pension fund the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
