Jeff van der Eems, the CEO of United Biscuits is to leave the McVitie’s maker, Yildiz Holding, the UK group’s Turkish parent, has announced.

Van der Eems, who has worked for United Biscuits for 11 years, moved from leading its international business to chief executive last year when Martin Glenn left the business to head the English Football Association.

At the time, van der Eems said he was “thrilled” to be taking the job, insisting United Biscuits was “in a strong position to continue to grow both at home and abroad”, with the support of Yildiz, which bought the business at the start of last year.

Speaking today (14 March), van der Eems said: “It has been a distinct pleasure to lead United Biscuits during a period where we re-established our presence on the world stage. Having secured the sale and transition to Yildiz Holding, it is an opportune time for me to step down from the CEO role and pursue other opportunities.”

Jim Zaza, the former Yildiz and Godiva who is executive chairman at United Biscuits, will assume responsibility for van der Eems’ role “for the foreseeable future”, Yildiz said.

Murat Ülker, Yildiz’s chairman, thanked van der Eems “for his tireless commitment to revitalising United Biscuits and ensuring a smooth integration with Yildiz Holding”. He added: “Jim’s experience and track record for success ensure that he is perfectly placed to help continue to drive success at United Biscuits. He has served as executive vice chairman and global chief operating officer at Yildiz Holding, director of the board and executive vice chairman at Godiva and has already had a significant impact since joining United Biscuits last year.”
