UK poultry processor 2 Sisters Food Group wants to use its plan to buy Dutch counterpart Storteboom Group for expansion in Eastern Europe.
The UK firm will attain a presence in Poland through its proposed acquisition of Storteboom but the deal could be just part of its plans to expand in Eastern Europe.
“We’re looking to establish a platform in central and Eastern Europe,” a 2 Sisters spokesman told just-food today (23 April).
A deal with Storteboom will see 2 Sisters become a business generating around GBP1bn (US$1.53bn) in annual sales.
The UK firm already has a presence in the Netherlands with a cutting site but an acquisition of Storteboom will give it three more cutting sites and two processing facilities, as well as a cutting site in Poland.
The spokesman said 2 Sisters would look to capitalise on the Dutch firm’s knowledge of the local market, where it supplies retail, cash-and-carry and foodservice customers with fresh and frozen poultry products.
