Hain Celestial believes the acquisition of WhiteWave Foods’ tofu and meat-alternative business will bolster the company in growing categories in the US and Canada.
The US-based company, which produces a range of natural and organic products, is set to buy WhiteWave Foods’s TofuTown brand, as well as a production facility based in Colorado.
WhiteWave Foods also owns a range of namesake products as part of its meat-alternative business but under the terms of the deal, Hain Celestial has declined to acquire those products outright.
Hain Celestial bought a non-dairy beverage brand called White Wave in the UK last year through its acquisition of Haldane Foods. As a consequence, the company will instead continue to produce the WhiteWave meat-alternative products under licence for the US and Canadian markets over the next 12 months.
A spokesperson told just-food today (30 May): “Tofu is a growing category and this will complement our existing business in the soya protein area in North America.”
