Alexander & Baldwin, the Hawaii-based group which owns Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company and the Kauai Coffee Company, has appointed Paul K. Ito to the newly created post of controller with effect from 1 May.

As controller, Ito will be responsible for accounting, internal controls and financial reporting. He will report to senior vice president and chief financial officer Christopher J. Benjamin.

“We are very pleased to be able to promote someone of Paul’s skill level and experience to this position,” said Benjamin. “Paul is extremely talented and has technical expertise that is invaluable in this era of increasingly complex accounting and reporting standards. He is highly qualified to take on his new role as controller.”

After nine years with Deloitte & Touche, most recently working as a member of the firm’s national office accounting consultation and research group, Ito joined A&B a year ago and has been heading up the company’s internal audit department.
