Dutch retailer Ahold has announced that Carl Schlicker is to take over as president and CEO of its Giant-Carlisle/Tops division in the US, succeeding Tony Schiano, who is retiring after 34 years with the group.

Schlicker, currently executive vice president sales and marketing at Giant-Carlisle/Tops, will assume his new role on 1 February. He will be reporting directly to Lawrence Benjamin, chief operating officer of Ahold’s US operations.


“Carl’s broad experience and proven ability to deliver results position him especially well to lead the team at Giant-Carlisle/Tops,” said Ahold president and CEO Anders Moberg. “I am pleased that he has agreed to take on this challenge and build upon the excellent work that Tony and the team have been doing for the business.”


The company further announced that Schiano is to remain with the company until 15 March to allow for an effective transition.
