A&P has appointed six executives to its merchandising and marketing team to help the US retailer enhance value for customers, while reducing structural and operating costs.

The troubled US grocery retailer today (16 February) announced the appointment of Marie Robinson as senior vice president of supply and logistics, Nancy Gaddy as vice president of deli and bakery and Kevin Broe as vice president of own brands.

Meanwhile, Harry Giglo has joined as vice president of meat and seafood, Bob Weidner has been named vice president of customer experience and space management and Corey Pearson has been appointed vice president of pricing and analytics.

Speaking about the appointments, A&P executive vice president of merchandising and marketing Tom O’Boyle said: “A key element of our comprehensive turnaround is to further enhance value for our customers and their shopping experience in our stores through our broad selection of food products and superior service. Marie, Nancy, Kevin, Harry, Bob and Corey are proven, high calibre leaders, and their combined expertise will significantly strengthen our merchandising and marketing organisation and supply chain, and advance our operational and financial restructuring.”

Robinson will be responsible for streamlining and enhancing A&P’s supply and logistics operations. She was previously senior vice president of supply and logistics at Smart & Final.

Gaddy will enhance the company’s deli and bakery offer to provide a “superior value proposition”. She was previously vice president of deli, bakery and food service operations for Winn-Dixie Stores.

Broe will lead the company’s private-label initiatives and was previously of president of sales and merchandising of own brands for Supervalu Inc.

Giglio will improve the meat and seafood offer and value proposition for customers. He was previously vice president of perishables for Weis Markets.

Weidner will work to revamp the instore experience including the merchandising sets and layouts. He was previously senior vice president of US operations for Prism.

Pearson will develop and implement pricing strategy and systems as well as everyday pricing, including costs and deals. He was previously director of merchandising execution for Supervalu.

A&P also announced plans to close some 32 stores as part of its restructuring plans yesterday, following an application for chapter 11 protection in December.
