John Fassak, vice president of business development for Dunkin’ Brands, said the company had targeted “major grocery retailers” in the US.

“Soon, consumers will be able to enjoy Baskin-Robbins’ delicious flavors at home, even if they can’t make it to one of our more than 2,450 ice cream shops across the US,” Fassak said.

When asked by just-food why Baskin-Robbins had decided to move into the grocery retail ice cream sector against competition from the likes of Unilever and Nestle, a spokesperson said: “We’re giving our guests more opportunity to enjoy our iconic frozen treats and making them more accessible across the country, especially in areas where consumers can’t make it to one of our Baskin-Robbins shops.”

US dairy giant Dean Foods is manufacturing the ice creams at plants in Tennessee and Ohio.
