Mexican bread maker Bimbo Bakeries has launched a prebiotic bread under it’s Oroweat brand, in a bid to continue its effort to advance nutrition in bread.
Oroweat Active Health, a prebiotic bread which the company said is designed to aid digestive health, contains a prebiotic fibre to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria.
“We are very excited about the health benefits of Oroweat Active Health,” said Dan Larson, Oroweat marketing director. “We believe prebiotic foods will continue to gain attention, and Oroweat Active Health is a bread industry leader in this category.”
Oroweat has also teamed up with Martek Biosciences to launch an additional whole-grain bread – Oroweat 9 Grain with Omega-3 DHA, designed to promote optimal development, growth and maintenance, says the company.
“DHA provides a proven health benefit. Now, our customers can find this benefit for the first time in bread,” said Larson. “Our goal at Oroweat is to ‘perfect bread.’ In doing so, we are continually looking at ways to offer our customers new choices in bread that fit their healthy lifestyles.”
