Soft-discount grocer Bottom Dollar Food plans to open 15-20 stores by the end of 2010 in the greater Philadelphia market.

The Delhaize Group-owned banner has identified 21 locations and said the move will create more than 600 jobs in the region.

The first outlet is set to open in autumn 2010 and the company is also considering other locations in the area.

Bottom Dollar Food has great potential in the market as we believe it is under-served in the soft-discount grocer arena,” said Meg Ham, president of Bottom Dollar Food.

Bottom Dollar operates 28 deep discount stores in North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, carrying a 6,500-8,500 SKU range of groceries including private label and branded products as well a full line of meat, deli and bakery products.
