Doug Conant, the chief executive of soup giant Campbell Soup Co., is recovering in hospital after a traffic accident late last week.

Conant, Campbell’s president and CEO, was travelling back from the US group’s HQ in New Jersey when he was involved in the incident, which occurred on Thursday (2 July).

Campbell, which issued an announcement last night, said Conant was travelling in the back seat of the vehicle and was taken to hospital.

The company said Conant is “recuperating” after surgery at the weekend but declined to explain the extent of his injuries.

Conant is expected to be in hospital “for a brief period”, the company said.
