Campbell Soup Co. has confirmed it is looking to acquisitions and joint ventures to expand its international presence.

The US food group wants to boost its overseas business and made the M&A headlines this week when CEO Denise Morrison told The Wall Street Journal it would use acquisitions to build its baking and snacking business.

Speaking to just-food, a spokesperson said Campbell was looking across its business, eyeing markets like Latin America and Asia and would also consider other types of deal.

“The company has long said that external development is a key part of our strategy to expand our international presence. This is not simply acquisitions, but also other opportunities, partnerships, joint ventures, etc. We have noted in the past that the company is focused on regions such as Latin America and Asia. We have also noted that we are focused on our core categories of simple meals, healthy beverages and baked snacks,” the spokesperson said.

Campbell this summer signed the largest acquisition in its history with a US$1.55bn deal for US chilled food firm Bolthouse Farms.
