US ingredients group Martek Biosciences has won a contract to supply Chinese food group COFCO, the company has announced.

The five-year deal initially sees Martek’s life’sDHA used in COFCO cooking oils and then “potentially other categories”, the US firm said yesterday (31 March).

COFCO’s Fortune Natural Grains Blended Cooking Oil is the first cooking oil with DHA to be launched in China.

COFCO general manager said the use of life’sDHA signalled “a new era of scientific and technological innovation in the cooking oil industry”.

Martek president David Abramson said the agreement to use life’sDHA would help support brain, eye and heart health among Chinese consumers.

“This product launch is a significant milestone as we seek to expand our presence in international markets like China, and as we continue to diversify our product applications, including the large and growing cooking oil category,” he added.
