ConAgra Foods has rejected allegations made in a lawsuit that products sold under its Hebrew National brand are not Kosher.
The US food manufacturer produces a variety of products – form hot dogs and Polish sausages to condiments and sides – under the Hebrew National brand. The company said that “for more than 100 years” Hebrew National has followed “strict dietary law”.
The legal action was brought against the company by 11 customers in May. It was first reported by American Jewish World and was picked up by major media outlets this week. Even if ConAgra’s claims the brand can be classified as Kosher are found to be accurate, the fact the story has been picked up by both religious and national press in the US means some damage to the Hebrew National brand equity has already been done.
