US dairy co-op Dairy Farmers of America is to begin the construction of a dairy ingredients plant in Nevada.
DFA has broken ground on the facility, which will process 2m pounds of raw milk a day and is based in the city of Fallon.
The company said the site would be the “first of its kind in the industry” as it will produce dried dairy ingredients, such as whole milk powder, on demand.
At full capacity, the plant will produce 250,000 pounds of dried dairy ingredients a day for domestic and global customers.
At least 40 jobs will be created at the plant. Construction will begin in the second quarter and is scheduled to be complete next summer.
