Dean Foods, the largest dairy processor in the US, has announced another round of job cuts.

The group, which owns brands including Silk, Horizon Organic and Alpro, is carrying out what it described as “a significant cost-reduction effort throughout our company”.

Last year, Dean Foods, which saw profits tumble in 2010 as competition from private label hit its key fluid milk business, last year cut 1,400 jobs across the business, the spokesperson noted.

A spokesperson declined to comment on the number of jobs being lost in the current round of reductions but said the move “primarily impacts our corporate functions”.

“We’ll continue to evaluate the challenging economic environment and needs of the business to make responsible decisions about staffing, structure and assets to help our organisation thrive in the long term,” she added yesterday (18 April).
