US snack group Diamond Foods has developed and launched a line of nut toppings.

Diamond of California Nut Toppings will begin shipping to retailers across the US this month, the firm said yesterday (17 August).

Variants include 5.5oz packs of glazed pecans and 7.5oz packs of glazed walnuts.

“The launch of Diamond of California Nut Toppings demonstrates our continued focus on expanding category consumption by encouraging consumers to use Diamond nuts in a variety of ways and for occasions beyond baking,” said Craig Tokusato, vice president of marketing for Diamond Foods. “In the current economic climate, at home meal consumption continues to grow.”

The firm said the launch will allow it to compete in the US$300m savoury toppings category.

National and retailer-specific trial-building marketing programmes will support the launch.
