J&J Snack Foods Corp. has booked an increase in third-quarter earnings, boosted by an “outstanding” performance from its unit that supplies the foodservice sector.

In the three months ended 29 June, net profit climbed 13% to US$21.2m. Operating profit was up 8% to $32.4m in the quarter.

Sales amounted to $237m, a 5% increase on the comparable period last year.

“Our foodservice group had an outstanding quarter with strong sales of soft pretzels and churros to new restaurant chain customers and added distribution throughout our customer base,” said CEO Gerald Shreiber. “ICEE and frozen beverages had another good quarter.”
