Campbell Soup Co. has announced the appointment of former Wrigley CEO William Perez to its board of directors.

Perez left Wrigley in the autumn of 2008 just weeks after the gum maker was sold to Mars in a US$23bn takeover.

Prior to taking the top job at Wrigley, Perez served as president and CEO of NIKE, from 2004 to 2006.

In addition to his executive roles, Perez is currently a director of Johnson & Johnson Co., and has previously served on the boards of Wrigley, Hallmark Cards, Kellogg Co., Nike and SC Johnson and Son.

“Bill’s long and varied experience with leading global consumer businesses will be invaluable to our board,” said Campbell chairman Harvey Golub.

“We are thrilled to add an outstanding business leader with such a broad range of relevant experience. Bill’s knowledge of global consumer packaged goods will be a great benefit to the company.”
