US meat-alternatives supplier Gardein has added to its range with the launch of a fish-free fillet.
The Golden Fishless Fillet is 180 calories per two-piece serving. The launch targets those with vegan and kosher diets and is said to be a healthy and convenient option for tacos, sandwiches or as snacks served with fries and coleslaw.
“Our consumers were asking for a meatless product that would replicate the classic fish and chips meal,” said Yves Potvin, founder of Gardein. “We spent a lot of time perfecting the flaky, moist texture on the inside and the crispy coating on the outside. I believe we’ve done it and I’m so excited to see people fall in love with it.”
The Golden Fishless Fillet contains 9g of protein and is made with non-GMO soy, wheat and canola oil is available at select US retailers.
Last month, the firm introduced three gluten-free products to its portfolio.
