HJ Heinz has rolled out its Heinz Dip & Squeeze ketchup to retail outlets in the US.

The US company plans to sell the product in packs of ten in stores across the country after an “overwhelmingly positive consumer response” to the product in restaurants.

Heinz Dip & Squeeze has a label that can be peeled back for dipping food in the ketchup or a cap that can be torn off so the ketchup can be squeezed onto foods.

Noel Geoffroy, vice president of Heinz Brands, said: “Consumer demand for this product has been tremendous, as there is a universal need for convenient, portable packaging.”

The company said over 220m packages have been shipped to restaurants across the country since its debut in March.

However, Heinz is currently involved in a lawsuit over the product. David Wawrzynski, a US businessman, claims the food giant used his idea for a new way of packaging ketchup without paying him.

When asked about the status of the lawsuit, a Heinz spokesperson said yesterday (20 September): “It would inappropriate for us to comment on ongoing legal matters, and we continue to believe that the case has no merit.”
