Hormel Foods has reformulated its Jennie-O turkey bacon to lower the salt and fat content in the product by 60%.

The improved recipe turkey bacon will be in stores from this month with an “improved taste and texture”, the US food company said, in addition to new zipper packaging.

The product now contains 60% less sodium and 60% less fat than conventional pork bacon, Hormel said. Per serving, sodium has been reduced from 340mg to 130mg. The product contains no MSG, no high-fructose corn syrup, no artificial sweeteners, no trans fats and no partially hydrogenated fats. It is also gluten-free.
