US food manufacturer General Mills has acquired spice and seasonings brands in India from local firm Parampara Foods.
Under the deal, announced yesterday (10 May), the Pune-based firm’s brands, including Parampara, StarterZ and Curry Tree, will be now marketed to all the countries where General Mills has a presence, the company said.
Parampara’s products are primarily sold in the Pune region of western India and also exported to countries including the US, Canada and Japan.
“The acquisition of Parampara Food Products’ strong portfolio of brands strengthens our ability to help bring home-cooked meals to the family table and positions General Mills India for continued growth,” Vijay Sood, vice president and executive director of General Mills’ Indian division, said. “We want to expand on Parampara’s potential to bring convenient meal solutions for our consumers across India and around the world.”
Parampara’s products will join General Mills’ growing portfolio of products sold in India including Pillsbury Fresh & Multi Grain Atta and dessert mixes, Betty Crocker dessert mixes and Green Giant vegetables. Headquartered in Mumbai, General Mills India also has export, bakery and foodservice operations in the country.
