J&J Snack Foods today (23 April) posted an 81% jump in second quarter earnings, boosted by lower costs and sales gains.


The maker of Super Pretzels reported a net profit of US$7.2m, up from $4m for the same period of last year.


Second quarter sales totaled $149.4m, up 4% from $144.2m.


“We are pleased with our overall financial performance for the quarter particularly considering the challenges in the overall economy. All of our business groups contributed as our company continues to outperform others in our sector,” Gerald Shreiber, president and CEO, said.


For the first six months of the year, net income was $11.6m, up from $5.9m posted in the first half of last year. Sales were up 6% in H1, rising to $290.5m.
