Kellogg has put a number of its peanut butter products on hold following the Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) salmonella scare earlier this week.
Austin and Keebler Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Crackers, Cheese and Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, and Peanut Butter-Chocolate Sandwich Crackers, have all been put on hold.
Kellogg said it is also removing product from shelves, and encouraging consumers not to eat the products until investigations are complete.
“Consumer health and safety is our top priority,” said Kellogg president and CEO David Mackay. “We are taking these voluntary actions out of an abundance of caution.”
The US Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies have indicated that PCA is the focus of their investigation concerning a recent salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter. PCA is one of several peanut paste suppliers that Kellogg uses in its Austin and Keebler branded peanut butter sandwich crackers.
