Kellogg has recalled 16 products as it reacts to the salmonella outbreak in the US.

The US snacks and cereal giant issued a voluntary nationwide recall of 16 lines on Friday evening (16 January) after Peanut Corporation of America, the supplier at the centre of the scare, expanded its own recall to include peanut paste and peanut butter.

“The actions we are taking today are in keeping with our more than 100-year commitment to providing consumers with safe, high-quality products,” said president and CEO David Mackay. “We apologise for this unfortunate situation.”

Among the products to be recalled were certain Austin and Keebler branded peanut butter sandwich crackers and selected packs of Famous Amos peanut butter cookies.

Meanwhile, ConAgra Foods, which two years ago was at the centre of a salmonella scare, said on Saturday that none of its products are linked to the current outbreak.
