Kraft Foods has said it is “on track” to complete its three-year initiative to reduce salt in its North American portfolio by an average of 10%.

The company said yesterday (26 September) it has already cut salt by 10% in products such as Oscar Mayer bacon, Kraft grated parmasan cheese and Breakstone’s 2% cottage cheese. In other products, Kraft emphasised it has “far exceeded” its targeted 10% reduction. For example, Kraft has cut the salt content of its Kraft original BBQ sauce by 40%.

In total, the US food firm revealed it has reduced the sodium content of more than 1,000 SKUs across 24 product categories.

“We [have] worked hard to make meaningful reductions in sodium, without sacrificing the taste, quality or safety of some of North America’s favourite foods,” Russ Moroz, VP of research, development and quality, said.
